Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on the bus on Dec. 1, 1955, was arrested &fined $14 for her act of defiance. The Montgomery Bus Boycott began shortly after her arrest in Montgomery. The boycott of the city buses lasted for 13 months. The boycott helped to bring national attention to the issue and brought Martin Luther King Jr. to the forefront as a key leader of the Civil Rights Movement.
